Infrastructure needs assessment in project communities in Vayots Dzor region

Within the framework of "Participatory Disaster Risk Reduction in Armenia" project, "Support to Communities" NGO (STC) has conducted the infrastructure needs assessment in 10 target villages of Vayots Dzor Marz of Armenia. It has been led by STC with close cooperation and participation of Local Self-Government and community emergency volunteer groups established in villages during the 2010-2011 project implementation. The use of following tools insured the needs assessment conduction in participatory and innovative way:




  • Direct observation (taking photos)
  • Interview of community leader
  • Focus group discussion with Community Emergency Groups (CEG) using community hazard maps developed by the CEGs during the previous project.

Out of 9 identified projects three the most important / urgent were selected to be implemented in target communities. This selection process has been done with participation of the regional authorities such as Department of Territorial Administration and Regional Rescue Department of Vayots Dzor Marz.

Thorough engineering assessment is in progress. Implementation of mitigation activities will be started in April end, 2012.

The detailed assessment report is under preparation.
