Disaster Risk Reduction Programme

Since May 2010 STC started implementation of Multi-Hazard Disaster Risk Reduction Programme in Armenia, covering 10 villages in Vayots Dzor Region. Programme is funded by DipECHO and Oxfam GB.

The aim of the program

Increase resilience and reduce vulnerability of local communities and national institutions by supporting strategies that enable them to prepare for, mitigate and respond to natural disasters in Armenia.

The results are as follows:

  1. Vulnerability and Capacity assessments were conducted in 10 target communities.
  2. Eight small scale mitigation projects were conducted.
  3. DRR key stakeholders participated at 4 DRR events 20 school evacuation drills, and 20 contests on DRR/CCA conducted in 10 target communities.
  4. Green laboratories- utilized in 10 target communities.
  5. 20 monitoring/supporting visits were conducted together with the representative of SCVIC centre for providing instructions/recommendations on further processing of green labs.
  6. Series of Community level meetings in ten target communities were conducted to discuss the draft LLR Assessment report for getting community representatives feedback on reports and for prioritization of community projects for small mitigation activities.

Currently the STC is a member of DMCT (Disaster Management Country Team), and the GTG group (Gender Theme Group) in Armenia.

STC Capacity and Planned Activities

STC has participated in the regional training of trainers (ToT) for sexual and reproductive health in humanitarian settings, a course for SRH Coordinators on MISP, comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health.
STC has conducted number of trainings in Armenia after completion of the mentioned ToT.
In 2013 STC has conducted a research on the foloowing topic "Community RH Preparedness in Emergency Situations” funded by Counterpart International Armenia.
In 2015 STC has participated in 4-th forum of "EECA Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crisis" organized by IPPF European Network Regional Office and UNFPA EECA Regional Office Istanbul.

STC has the following resources and professional capacities to invest and contribute for the implementation of programmes in Armenia:

  • Trained, dedicated, experienced professional staff.
  • Well established relations and good cooperation experience with national and regional health authorities in 5 (out of 10) regions of Armenia.
  • Well equipped field offices in 5 regions of Armenia suited for the organization and conduction of workshops, meetings as well as for the overnight stay of the staff.
  • Established and well experienced logistics staff, procedures and facilities with means of transportation.
  • Professional finance management department and financial records system.
  • Positive results of number of independent audits carried out in the organization.
