Vayots Dzor Health Care Foundation

Organization Profile

"Vayots Dzor Health Care Foundation" was established by "Support to Communities" NGO and officially registered in 2001 (Registration number 432, April 20, 2001. Ministry of Justice of RA).

The supreme governing and supervisory body of the Foundation is the Board of Trustees, that consists of 11 members. The members of Board of Trustees of Foundation are "Support to Communities" NGO (Trusted Manager), Oxfam (GB) in Armenia, as well as representatives from government and non - government organizations of Vayots Dzor region.

The goals of "Foundation" are

• To support the Primary Health Care in communities
• To support communities in raising social and healthcare protection
• To support the improvement of health services in communities
• To support the livelihood development in communities

Since 2001 Foundation has implemented numerous community based program, such as community mobilization, primary healthcare promotion, health rights protection, women health protection, livelihoods promotion and many other projects in 37 village communities of Vayots Dzor region, covering more than 18000 people. Some of the projects have been implemented jointly with STC (Support to Communities NGO).

Currently the Foundation is implementing Primary Health Care program including (1) provision of essential drugs on quarterly bases, considering needs of communities, (2) development of skills and abilities of established Community Health Committees (CHC) to identify community health problems and make decisions.

The Health Information Resource Center has been established in the office of Foundation in 2004. Project was funded by JMF and USAID. Office was equipped with appropriate furniture, TV and DVD player, number of health related visual / video materials, books, periodicals and other necessary stuff. The flexible mechanism was established for the customers and visitors of Center. Several trainings, round table discussions, meetings have been organized and conducted in the Center.
