Syunik Health Care Foundation

Organization Profile

"Syunik Health Care Foundation" was established by STC and officially registered at the Ministry of Justice of RA on May 11, 2001. The supreme governing and supervisory body of the Foundation is the Board of Trustees, that consists of 7 members. The members of Board of Trustees of Foundation are "Support to Communities" NGO (Trusted Manager), Oxfam (GB) in Armenia, as well as representatives from government and non - government organizations of Syunik region.

The goals of "Foundation" are

• To support the Primary Health Care in communities
• To support communities in raising social and healthcare protection
• To support the improvement of health services in communities
• To support the livelihood development in communities

Funded by "Support to Communities" NGO, Oxfam (GB), Jinishian Memorial Foundation (JMF), USAID the Foundation has implemented numerous community health care projects in 53 communities of Syunik region, benefitting about 16000 people, from which approximately 15% are refugees. Currently the Foundation is implementing Primary Health Care Program.

The Main Activities

• Creation of Community Health Committees (CHC)
• Mobilising communities, conducting meetings with CHC, identifying health problems and planning actions
• Provision of essential drugs to health posts according to their needs
• Health rights protection and legal consultation
• Collaboration with international and local organizations

Since 2006 the Information Resource Center was established at the Foundation office in Kapan, equipped by public health and professional materials, TV and DVD player including a lot of didactic materials etc. The flexible mechanism is working for customers and visitors of Center. Several trainings, round tables, meetings are organized and conducted at Center.
